Dustin
Ashby was hired as the UMSL men's golf coach on June 14, 2004, and is
entering his fourth season in the 2007-08 campaign. Ashby is coaching
at his alma mater, where he was a member of the UMSL men’s golf
team. He graduated from Missouri-St. Louis in 1997 with a B.S. in accounting
and played for the Rivermen under UMSL Sports Hall of Fame coach Jim
Niederkorn. While at UMSL, Ashby was named an MIAA Academic All-Conference
selection in 1994-95 while being the top player for the Rivermen.
Ashby
continues to participate in competitive golf and has had quite an accomplished
amateur career. Among Ashby’s accomplishments include winning
the 1995 Carlyle Lake Amateur Championship, 1996 St. Louis District
Golf Association Championship, runner-up in the 1998 St. Louis District
Golf Association Championship, 1996 Missouri Amateur Qualifying Medalist,
1996 Public Links Alternate, Qualifier for the U.S. Amateur Public Links
Championship in Portland, Ore in 2000 and winning the 2004 Missouri
Amateur Four Ball Championship.
Beginning
in 1999, Ashby served as General Manager of WingHaven
Country Club, which features among its amenities a Nicklaus Design
Championship golf course. As General Manager of WingHaven Country Club,
Ashby helped to develop the area’s elite “Family Friendly”
country club. He worked cooperatively with civic leaders to foster a
community where commercial, residential and recreational activity could
coexist in one master planned, dynamic living environment.
Since
2003, Ashby has hosted a series of radio shows, including a highly acclaimed
golf show, The Back Nine on Sunday which airs 8 am to 10 am on 1380
ESPN in St. Louis or streamed online at www.espnbacknine.com.
In
2007, Ashby co-founded 360 Sports Marketing, an integrated marketing
consulting firm specializing in sports affiliated advertising and sponsorship.
