Rick Gyllenborg has been the men’s tennis head coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis since the 1995-96 season and is entering his 13th season going into the 2007-08 season. During his career, he has produced a program that has shown success both on and off the court. He surpassed the 100 win mark during the 2004-05 season, and continues to add to that total.

The Rivermen finished 11-7 last year and qualified for the GLVC Tournament before losing to Drury in the semifinals as the program has had seven winning seasons in the past eight years. The 2002 team won 16 matches on the year and became the first UMSL tennis team to earn a bid to the NCAA Regionals. The following year produced 14 wins and a second straight appearance in the NCAA Regionals. Gyllenborg has led UMSL to the GLVC Tournament in each of the last 11 years, finishing as high as second in the 2002 season.

During his 12-year tenure, Gyllenborg had coached a total of 19 all-conference players, including three freshman of the year selections. Academically, he has coached a total of 25 academic all-conference selections and UMSL's first ever GLVC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
